A reasonably strong drama. The true story is skillfully and realistically developed. The build-up is good and the tension is palpable throughout the film. Towards the second half, this is ramped up even further. The film relies heavily on suspense and drama, as it contains virtually no real action. The entire film is shot realistically and the mass scenes are very powerful. A downside, however, is that as a viewer you don't get the impression that it was a grueling 13-day and 13-night mission, as the title suggests. Rather, it feels a whole lot shorter. The acting is excellent. 3.5/4.0

A film that could not be shot in Afghanistan due to the Taliban regime, which does not allow foreign film productions. Consequently, the film was shot in Morocco. The airport scenes took place in Casablanca and Kenitra. The lead roles are played by Roschdy Zem and Lyna Khoudri, among others. The latter plays the fictional character Eva. Her real-life counterpart was Wali Mohammadi, an Afghan-French lawyer and translator. The film is an adaptation of the book "13 Jours, 13 Nuits dans l'enfer de Kaboul" by Mohamed Bida.

The film tells the true story of the French Operation Apagan in August 2021, during the emergency evacuation of Western troops from Afghanistan. Bida and other French soldiers protected and evacuated hundreds of Afghan civilians from Afghanistan. Director Martin Bourboulon was working on the post-production of "Les Trois Mousquetaires: Milady" when producer Dimitri Rassam showed him Mohamed Bida's book. Bourboulon was very enthusiastic about the idea of adapting this story and subsequently showed the book to Roschdy Zem, who was also enthusiastic and accepted the lead role. This happened before the script had even been written.

An impressive film that keeps the tension and emotions in balance.

Two weeks before his retirement, Mohamed Bida [Roschdy Zem] faces the task of evacuating a group of 300 people to the French embassy and then to the airport in Kabul. At that point, the Taliban already controls a large part of the city, and the situation at the airport is becoming increasingly critical. Despite good performances, particularly by Khoudri as the improvised interpreter and by Knudsen as an experienced war correspondent, this is a unconvincing reconstruction of a complex rescue operation. Bourboulon struggles with the mass scenes, which are nowhere near as chaotic and impressive as the authentic footage that will still be burned into the minds of many viewers.
