I'm not into Formula 1, but this film managed to surprise me.

Visually very strong film.

Beautiful images and very nicely filmed.

Nice cast with Brad Pitt who is really very good. Which is not always the case with him.

The only negative point that is annoying to me is that the story is far too weakly developed.

The whole movie is TOP, only the story spoils it a bit.

Definitely recommended to see in the cinema, because you will not experience the same thing with this film at home.

Fifty-something Sonny Hayes [Brad Pitt] has just won the 24 Hours of Daytona when his old friend Ruben [Javier Bardem] approaches him to return to Formula 1 after 30 years. Sonny must save the team from financial ruin by at least scoring points with an inferior car. Sonny is old-school in his training style and media appearance, which intensifies the rivalry with his young stablemate Joshua Pearce [Damson Idris], who embraces (social) media and uses the latest training techniques. The technical director [Kerry Condon] is a woman. With a bit of common sense, you know exactly how this is going to end. A weak story, shallow characters, unexciting race sequences and the confirmation that F1 is a sport where cheating/clever use of the rules pays off. Perhaps the racing jargon will appeal to fans of the sport. The F1 drivers from the 2023/2024 season are extras and there are cameos from other big names from the F1 circuit. Only for diehard fans of the sport.

This thing lasts 155 minutes and I was not bored for a second, so then a film gets a pass anyway. In addition, there are some nice scenes and Brad Pitt mainly plays Brad Pitt but does so with visible pleasure (which is allowed for 30 million) with which he is quite enjoyable. And quite cool how this is really processed in the current F1 where all drivers also appear. But that's it.

Visually not very special, in a boring style even. With all those cameras on the cars it all looks quite good but secretly I didn't really find a sense of speed coming from it anywhere - I have definitely encountered better racing in other films. Actually those few flashbacks to the 90s and Pitt's accident theregave much more of that sense of speed.

Biggest pain point is the script. That all clichés are checked off and therefore every form of surprise is missing is not even the worst (although that does not help) but often the enormous unbelievable things. Especially Pitt's driving but also two serious accidents in one year in a team - that all went far beyond my suspension of disbelief and eventually this also started to irritate. 3.0*.

Good film about a former F1 driver who makes an unexpected return after 30 years. A simple story with also quite cliché characters (but the interaction between the young dog and the old hand is worked out entertainingly). Entertaining from start to finish and the many racing scenes are quite exciting and look excellent. Easily 3.5 stars.

Brad Pitt always knows how to entertain, but it's all very Hollywood and not very realistic.

Rush was 3x better anyway so you better go see it again.

Nevertheless, it was a pass, I certainly wasn't bored.
