In Mijn Hoofd Is Alles Leuker plot

In the documentary, filmmaker Thomas Renckens shows how Amber, Sian and Dušan create a perfect life in their fantasy; a life so tempting that they eventually threaten to lose themselves in it. Through interviews and scenes from their daily lives, one is taken along in the shadow life of the main characters. Along the way, one also discovers what the characters want to escape from, what underlies their urge to daydream and one sees their attempts to learn to embrace real life.

Renckens expanded his short film Daydreamers (2020) into a feature-length documentary about three young people who suffer from 'Maladaptive Daydreaming'. This is a compulsive form of daydreaming in which the person in question completely loses themselves in their own fantasy and can lose all sense of (real) time. Amber, Sian and Dušan have different cultural and personal backgrounds and provide a broad picture of the dangers of this condition, supplementing it with soundbites from many young people he spoke to via webcam. A statically filmed documentary about a theme that could probably become a growing social problem in this digital age (in which it is still easy to lose yourself in a dream world).
