One of Them Days plot
Dreux and Alyssa are best friends who are about to have a hellish day. They have discovered that Alyssa's boyfriend has spent the money that was supposed to be used to pay their rent. The friends then go to extremes in a race against time to avoid eviction and keep their friendship intact.

What low ratings here because this was just very nice cinema entertainment and a fine comedy - I had to laugh often enough and the film is just fun to watch. The summery atmosphere of LA is well brought through partly due to the good choice of locations. Both leading actresses are fine (Palmer is fine anyway and I am positively surprised by SZA) and also many supporting characters are entertaining.
It could have been a bit sharper at times and the film starts to become a bit predictable towards the end and also starts to drag a bit (when the comedy is let go a bit and the drama is allowed a bit more). But in the meantime this film does what I love films for. It takes me to another place for a while and lets me linger there wonderfully. 3.5*.

Nice film about two friends who do everything to get their rent money together. As the title suggests, the film takes place during one day. Perhaps a bit predictable, but nice developments and some scenes are nicely over the top. Partly because of the fast pace, the film is easy to watch. Easily 3.0 stars.

I laughed a lot. Dreux (Keke Palmer) and Alyssa (SZA) are well-matched as polar opposites who constantly unleash a torrent of sharp dialogue on one another. The ambitious young woman with big dreams versus the cheerful free spirit with no mapped-out plan. Behind the lighthearted, 'nothing to worry about' atmosphere lurk serious themes such as poverty, gang violence, marginalization, and the extra obstacles Black women face. But at its core, 'One of Them Days' (2025) remains simply a very fun comedy with flamboyant supporting roles and a great soundtrack. At times, it is also delightfully unashamedly crude. I secretly hope the announced sequel goes ahead, because Dreux and Alyssa deserve to bicker and knock down more sacred cows. A request in advance: more depth for Berniece (Aziza Scott) as the human being behind the battering ram full of feminine energy.
