A decent film about a real estate agent participating in a reality show where someone from his past throws a spanner in the works. It is all quite predictable and features a healthy dose of crude humor. However, there is still plenty to laugh at. John Cena is very likeable and has no trouble with self-deprecation (which is the film's greatest asset). A solid 3.0 stars.

Little Brother is a lighthearted comedy about family bonds and is packed with an inevitable dose of feel-good. A comedy centered on the duo John Cena and Eric André. A duo whose performance undeniably grabs attention. A duo that contrasts sharply with each other. One is organized and controlled. The other is an impulsive chaotic character. A classic contrast and a guarantee of good humor, you might say.
The film relies on a mixture of physical humor, absurd situations, and exaggeration. In the first few minutes, this works well. The characters are still fresh, and the viewer grants them some comedic leeway. However, it soon becomes apparent that the jokes are, in fact, constantly repeating themselves. Instead of adding variety to the humor, scenes follow one after another that fail to introduce any new humorous accents. It is much of the same.
The play with the contrast between the two characters also quickly fizzles out. Cena is hardly ever comically held accountable for his craving for control anymore. André develops into a character consisting of escalations. The refinement is completely lost. The comedic scenes come across as forced. And forced humor is not funny humor. The supporting roles stand out mainly for their lack of comedic input. They are merely functionally present. I am exaggerating a bit here, because Christopher Meloni has a nice role full of self-deprecation. He brings the bit of subtle humor that is missing from the rest of the film.
The premise of the story is quite nice. The execution leaves much to be desired. The film is noisy, surprisingly empty, and not funny. It all seemed pretty familiar to me, by the way. Suddenly I knew it. The film resembled a pale imitation of What about Bob? (1991). A much funnier comedy.
