After 50 years of imprisonment, Shadow [Keanu Reeves], the spitting image of Sonic [Ben Schwartz], escapes from a secret prison. He has so much power that Sonic can't do without the help of Knuckles [Idris Elba] and Tails [Colleen O'Shaugnessey] to prevent the planet from being destroyed. The team forms an alliance with arch-enemy Ivo Robotnik [Jim Carrey], but he naturally has some unpleasant surprises in store. Alternately dull and deadly tiring, with lame humor, grimacing and a mix of cheerful colors and noise in a remarkably grim and violent action comedy. Just like Jim Carrey, this has had its day ... You would think, because halfway through the credits there is (unfortunately) a setup for another pointless sequel.

Least part of the 3 but still entertaining. The story is nicely put together again and contains a lot of nonsense. The pace is nice and fast in Sonic style and the film thunders across the screen. Unfortunately it is even more bombastic than the previous parts which does not come across very well. Furthermore, the action is dosed and alternated with the necessary humor, with some successful jokes and nice references. Visually it is also at a good level. Carrey is also very convincing in his role. 3.0

Even slightly better than its predecessor. I don't care enough for Sonic the Hedgehog to rush to the cinema for it, and I've only seen the previous installments once, but I still want to keep up with them, especially as long as childhood hero Jim Carrey keeps participating.

I really started to lose interest by part 2, because I began to find the human characters (except for Carrey) truly horribly annoying and useless. In Sonic the Hedgehog 3, that problem is largely resolved, as their role is little more than a cameo. As a result, attention can be focused entirely on Sonic, Knuckles and Tails, newcomer Shadow (and his likeable relationship with Maria), and the two Robotniks. That absolutely benefits the entertainment value. After all, the heroes are quite endearing characters, and Carrey gets plenty of room to let loose in his wacky double role. Visually, the film also does quite well: the action scenes look fairly slick. It remains odd that so few people look up when the three heroes walk through a random city, but oh well...

Just a nice, fast-paced blockbuster. The humor and the story are (logically) primarily aimed at a younger audience, but it is easy for adults to get through as well. The voice acting is fine again, with Keanu Reeves being a nice addition. The character of Shadow suits him perfectly. After this upward trend, I would actually be open to the sequel. I’m normally not one for milking franchises and didn’t expect to say this anytime soon after part 2, but it feels like there is still some room for growth. Constantly expanding the franchise with new (well-known) characters in each installment is, in that regard, not a bad move.

3*
