The Piano Lesson plot
"Blood is a chord that resonates through time."
In 1936 Pittsburgh, in the aftermath of the Depression, we follow the Charles family. They gather at Doaker's house and talk about their priceless heirloom, a piano, with carvings of ancestors that were meticulously set by an enslaved family member. The Charles family has different views on what should happen to the piano. For example, while Boy Willie wants to sell it to buy land, his sister Berniece prefers to keep the musical instrument.

Nice film in which a family disagrees about whether or not to sell their piano. Clearly based on a play (the film is largely set in a house). Despite a few good flashbacks, the film cannot avoid being a bit monotonous and long-winded (despite the good acting). This directorial debut of Denzel Washington's son is, after Ma Rainey's Black Bottom and Fences, the lesser of the three film adaptations of an August Wilson play.
