Nyctophobia plot

Rose and Azalea are twin sisters. They and their friend Brooks are trapped in a supernatural blackout where monsters are real. Their only hope for survival comes from the light of their cell phone.

The young cast members act well and the makers are focused on finding original angles, but once things get going in Nyctophobia, little is ultimately delivered. Director Kim Noonan focuses on pure genre work with an appropriately short playing time, but it doesn't work with any form of tension. The presence of threat is not felt and the confusing way of imagery in the second half does little to inspire fear. Of course, such a situation has to be chaotic and messy, but as a director you will have to find a distinction in that in order to create some form of tension. Nyctophobia does not demonstrate that very effectively, but you get through it quickly and a number of characters come across convincingly. Hopefully Noonan can continue to seek originality for his next project with more resources and/or lessons learned in order to achieve broader success.
