The heavily pregnant Maria arrives alone at her father-in-law's remote summer house. She still has no idea of the dark secrets that are present in the house. When strange things happen and the power suddenly goes out, she goes to investigate. Are her in-laws hiding secrets from her? A creepy and dramatic night follows, in which she will have to fight for survival.

Home Sweet Home was recorded in one take. A great achievement. No matter how clever, it certainly does not make the film more interesting and does not ensure high quality. Such a nice gimmick, but it turns out that it is the art of editing that makes a story fascinating. Particularly when it comes to building tension, thoughtfully placed cuts generally have more effect than nervous images of a camera continuously circling the main character.

The camera follows the heavily pregnant Maria who stays alone in her new house. A predictable scenario unfolds. At the moments when she disappears from view or is less prominent, you can bet that something frightening is going to happen soon. The unexpected, surprising element that would normally provide the tension is therefore missing. A nice threatening atmosphere never arises. The film, which was directed by Thomas Sieben (who previously produced some mediocre genre works for Netflix), is convincing neither visually nor in terms of content.

Despite the efforts of lead actress Nilam Farooq, who sneaks and runs through the house with her voluminous belly and gives a nice performance, an intense atmosphere never arises. The metaphysical threat is visually insignificant and the reason for the threat's existence is quite nonsensical. At no point did I feel the urge to get lost in the story. The entire film is far too polished a project. Far too contrived. Not only because of the one take gimmick, but also because of the sterile environment and the bare story, neither of which create an exciting feeling. The film is not alive, does not pulsate. It's a dead mess.
