"Rest in cheese", "Heidi and Klara will return in Heidi & Klara!"

Absurd, perverse, gross and a bit of humor here and there. A mix of Kill Bill, Ilsa, Zombies, The Magnificent Seven, Once upon a time and many other films. You have to poke through it, but then you still have an hour and a half of reasonable entertainment.

In the cast a few familiar faces such as Casper van Dien and Leon Herbert, the latter was only seen in a more serious role as the prison guard in Roslund & Hellström: Cell 8 (2022).

This Swiss exploitation film came about through a successful crowdfunding campaign, but unfortunately it is not much. The bland plot moves slowly and the protagonist looks nice (especially in her tough lederhosen) but lacks charisma. In addition, the film is actually made and filmed much too well for what it tries to be, namely a cheap b-movie. Casper Van Dien is an entertaining villain and there are a few nice supporting roles, but things never really want to get off the ground. In the end Mad Heidi, despite a few bloody scenes, is much too tame.

Swissploitation can be read somewhere in the opening credits at the start of the film. And that is correct. The well-known romantic heroine Heidi from the books by the Swiss writer Johanna Spyri turns into a wild fighting machine in this feature debut by Johannes Hartmann and Sandro Klopfstein. It's funny to see the homely Heidi going wild like a warrior.

The film also uses and ridicules Swiss stereotypes. Sometimes fun. More often not. A lot of humor consists of flat jokes that are actually not very humorous. The many jokes about Swiss cheese really got to me in the end.

The film is set in a dictatorship. Nazi symbolism is rampant. That produces quite a few bland characters. You know them. A mad scientist, a ridiculous fuhrer, a cold SS man, a prison director with a preference for SM and of course countless stupid soldiers. I couldn't really laugh about it.

The splatter effects are very good. Completely in the trash tradition, very excessively bloody and excessively squirting. The story is not interesting at all. That is extremely poor and is constantly repetitive. The action scenes are amateurishly staged and give no reason for excitement. Nice leading role by Alice Lucy who looks good and appears pleasantly fresh. There is nothing more positive to say about the film. Mad Heidi is just not a great movie.
