The Tates, a twin brother and sister, have a father who abandoned his family years ago. Their mother has since remarried, and Michelle is adjusting well to her new stepfather and stepsister. But her twin brother, Stephen, is becoming increasingly rebellious and distant. Moreover, he is haunted by remembered fragments of a traumatic past. He attends a Catholic school run by the overzealous Monsignor Canell, and that doesn't make things any better.
