Film about a newly built kibbutz, which is attacked by the inhabitants of the area. An Egyptian filmmaker is on site to make a report about it. The film occasionally shoots in all directions, such as when the war drama is interrupted by dry humour. Not quite my thing, but still nice for once.

A solidly constructed war drama that tries to illuminate a conflict from two different perspectives as much as possible, but for the attentive viewer it is really clear that director Avi Nesher and his scriptwriters have not been very neutral. The commune gets considerably more attention in this way than Amir Khoury and his film project, while the story should be told from the second perspective. Fortunately, the acting is good overall, it looks very neat visually and the genres alternate quite well for a change. It certainly does not leave an emotional impact, but the production looks neat for what it is and also includes enough content to not or rarely bore.

The film was made long before the war that is raging there now. It is striking that the kibbutz were attacked then too. You could almost say that this film incited them. What I did not know is that there was already so much fighting after Israel had "received" this piece from the UN. Anyway, the film is not that badly told, although the Israelis are more in the picture. I was also surprised that Egypt played such a big role then. The story is not super tight and profound, but it is very well filmed and acted. I would have liked a bit more depth. Nevertheless, a more than adequate grade.

Movie 3.5

Image 4.5

Sound 4.5
