A Parked Life plot

Petar is one of the hundreds of thousands of Eastern European truck drivers who cross the European mainland for 48 weeks a year. The documentary follows a Bulgarian truck driver who dreamed of a life as a cosmonaut as a child, but who has been crossing Europe as a pseudo-cosmonaut since the fall of communism, with people like him making Europe Europe: the highways connect all parts of Europe where the transport sector enjoys free trade realizes. In a sense, this capitalism makes those truck drivers float through space like cosmonauts because while they get to know all of Europe, they become alienated from their families and from the world. The documentary does a good job of conveying the loneliness and alienation of the lorry driver's life and the gray reality of the underside and base of our capitalism, but for my taste it also focuses too much on the personal marital problems of this man, which can be experienced through the telephone. driver, whose problems caused by the physical alienation of each other are just as monotonous as life on the road and who, for me, should not have dominated the documentary so much.

Interesting look at the ups and downs of an Eastern European truck driver. Beautiful landscapes and ugly industrial areas alternate. The loss with the home front is harrowing to see. What I found a bit unfortunate is that it is quite one-sided. It was mainly about this one driver and his relationship problems, and the many phone calls with his son. The only bright spot he had were the pleasant conversations he had with his fellow drivers in a desolate parking lot. I would also like to see the stories of the driver who thinks he has a dream job, is not accountable to a partner, and has no children. They do indeed exist. By telling it so one-sidedly it seems as if it is only doom and gloom for all drivers. But I thought the documentary was pretty good and interesting as a documentary about a driver. You will not get a complete picture of the entire industry here.

I quickly thought of John & Mary's legendary hymn to “The Truck Driver”. Petar Doycheov is a Bulgarian truck driver who is regularly flown in to Western Europe to work far from home for months at a time. The wages are not high by our standards, but for him there is no better paid job to be found in his own country. This documentary shows what life on the road is like, from the sunny roads of southern Europe to the frozen ones of the far north. Meanwhile, he often quarrels with his wife Snezhina, who regularly asks for money and complains that he is not enough for his son Jordan. The message is quickly clear and apart from beautiful panoramic pictures, Triest soon has little to add.
