Reminds me a bit of Incendies by Villeneuve. Especially since this is one of those films that adds a new drama element around every corner and also tries to make a marriage between serious drama and genre elements (although the genre-like is a bit more emphatic here). And both films are quite Freudian in their approach. And I couldn't do much with both that film and this one, but I expect that there will be a lot of people who will like it.

Sometimes the film poses nice existential questions, but in the end not much is done with them. The young actress who plays Vicky is much better than the rest of the cast, which none of the three could really convince me.

Vicky [Sally Dramé] watches with dismay as the relationship between her mother Joanne [Adèle Exarchopoulos], a swimming instructor and former beauty queen, and her father Jimmy [Moustapha Mbengue] seems to come to an end after 10 years of marriage. Tensions rise with the arrival of Julia [Swala Emati], Jimmy's sister who has just served a prison sentence. Mysius' choice to have Vicky appear in flashbacks from a time before she was born is confusing at first, but that's exactly the point. The combination with the story that is not told chronologically holds your attention and Exarchopoulos is great, all the more unfortunate that it is ultimately a soap-like melodrama and that many loose ideas (including Vicky's strong sense of smell) are no more than lightning rods.
