wafer-thin story that never becomes anything.

Very nice Ritchie, I think even his nicest. I often find Ritchie's style annoying, way too hip too. But here's none of that and that makes this thing much more enjoyable. The film is told in a messy way, yes, without its own face and completely interchangeable, but to have seen it once is okay. Reasonable locations, good pace (something is always happening, information is told as you go, no high school cinema but effective so as not to get bored) and occasionally nice ideas in action scenes (especially the music) although the film never really hits. Statham goes on autopilot a bit too much, Grant is nice, Statham's partner Malone is a bit colorless and Aubrey Plaza is just very enjoyable, although I found the sexual references from/to her to be pointless. 3.0*.

Entertaining.
After Wrath of Man another non-typical Guy Ritchie film. He also omits the hip dialogues and flashy editing with Operation Fortune. No fuss, but a straightforward action film. But if Wrath of Man is a bit harder and more serious in approach, Operation Fortune opts for a light tone. More action comedy than action film pur sang.
Some typical Ritchie things are still there: Jason Statham plays the leading role. I can handle him, actually. He has been playing the same role for over 20 years now, but I can add another 20. He doesn't steal the show. That is what Hugh Grant does, in a typical Ritchie role.
Other than that there is little good or bad to say. The movie is what it is. For fans of Ritchie's earlier work, this will most likely be a disappointment. Those who like a simple yet smooth action snack may find this to their liking.
