Not bad at all. My interest was piqued because it was promoted as being a movie from the makers of The Ritual, which I recently saw and quite liked. No One Gets Out Alive doesn't reach that level, but there are some similarities. Also in this movie , the monster is some kind of Eldritch Horror, which 'feeds' on the memories and/or fears of the characters. It's nice that it went that way, and it's not just a standard ghost movie. Although for much of the film it does seem to be. So the film only really gains momentum in the last half hour, but that half hour is also quite good, and boosts the overall level. The ending is also nicely done. On top of that, Cristina Rodlo knows how to carry the film well as the sympathetic Ambar. There seems to be a whole subtext of immigrant issues in the first half of the film, but it never really goes anywhere in the end. Maybe a little more could have been done with that.

It is a pity that the first hour is slow and feels too standard (plus the visual style is also so dull and gloomy), but a great last half hour really pulls the film to a good enough level. There's also a nice blink and miss reference to The Ritual, funny if you notice it. But again, this film unfortunately does not reach that level. Small 3*.

Horror combined with social involvement. The position of illegal immigrants in this case. About the Mexican Ambar who has unpleasant and sinister experiences abroad, while she is only looking for a prosperous life.

The film alternates commitment and horror. At times the film focuses on Ambar's struggle to survive as an illegal resident in a heartless society. Then again the film takes place in the dilapidated house where she has rented a room cheaply. The house of which the viewer already knows from the prologue that there is something dark there. The house is a great setting for fine horror. An old creaky building with dim light, strange noises, ghostly apparitions and, last but not least, a creepy landlord.

Yes. Nice setting. The house has a surreal atmosphere. Apart from the aforementioned elements, the main reason lies in the behavior of the characters who inhabit the house. Their silence is particularly surprising. No one needs to explain anything. As a result, like Ambar, the viewer often feels in the dark about the history of the house, its inhabitants and the things that happen there. Even at the end of the film, not all questions are answered and certain things remain shrouded in mystery. And that is good to live with.

The story swings both ways. The side of horror. The side of social criticism. The film paints an intriguing view of both worlds, but fails to connect the two. In fact, it makes no difference whether or not Ambar is an illegal immigrant. The only thing that causes the insight into her sad daily existence as a disenfranchised is to arouse a feeling of pity. If she had been a lonely student, for example, the story would be no less horror-worthy. The socially critical note does not add much in that sense, but gives the film a bit more depth. And that is always welcome.

Fine movie.

Fascinating and exciting until 3/4 of the film, just like what BlueJudaskiss says. After that it all became a bit vague and you don't really know what the intention was. I have written my own interpretation below. Not sure if others thought the same.

The movie started fine. Beautiful setting, great music, great atmosphere. After my idea, there was a bit too much dreaming, but some films have to rely on that, because there is a connection between them. As the movie progressed, you quickly learned that it wasn't about those ghosts, but something much more sinister.

When the '' monster came into view (and I had already read that it was some kind of monster) I was a bit disappointed, because I didn't like it. And then it all got a bit blurry. So the parents of both brothers had found a stone box and their father was subsequently possessed. The parents died and the eldest brother Becker felt it was his calling to feed this monster. At least that's how it came across to me.

Ambar was also sacrificed. That monster played on her emotional weakness, but she fought back. In her dream her mother was her weakness, but she killed her. So she no longer had a weakness and the monster retreated because she didn't fall into her traps? That's how I interpreted the movie iig

Certainly not a bad movie from Netflix and it is worth a look. 3 stars.
