Ape vs. Monster (2021)

"How can you lose giant ape?"

Regular fixture Eric Roberts was back again, and up until minute 28 this film was actually quite watchable, until the moment you see the Märklin train come speeding by. I certainly found this one better than Megalodon (2018) & Megaboa (2021).

Just as it sometimes still seems like World War II on Canvas, I get the impression that at The Asylum they are stuck in the Cold War. But they are clearly having fun with their mockbusters, in this case a Godzilla vs. Kong (2021) from the discount store. However, you don't exactly watch films like that for the story, and that is exactly what Ape vs. Monster mainly offers: a whole lot of nonsense. So for the small circle of happy few who watch Godzilla-style films for the sophisticated, well-developed storylines, they will certainly get just as much satisfaction here. The ape and the Gila monster actually appear quite sparingly, but when they do, the Gila monster in particular is actually quite decent in terms of special effects. And I thought the old man Rudy Bentz (Papa Murphy) acted quite well, in particular.

Actually, it's still worth 1.75 to me, but 2* is just a bit too much, so we'll round down.
