A seriously interesting film.

Although I might have to explain that the word 'interesting' in Anglo-Saxon usage doesn't necessarily denote anything positive – if you encounter it at work, it usually means 'a problem' or 'someone you steer clear of'. Yes, I have seen that go really wrong a few times.

This film is definitely, yes, 'interesting'. On the one hand, Vassilopoulos manages to make a reasonable and meaningful comparison with Lanthimos's earlier films; on the other hand, the cinematography is occasionally on a clearly higher level than that, and the integration with the soundtrack is also seriously beautifully done. And then there is the absurdly groundbreaking idea of having the lead roles played by real twins, instead of some lazy technical trickery. On the other hand, the film is narratively so homeopathic that, frankly, I can't make head or tail of it. Now, that happens to me with Lanthimos sometimes too, but not to this overwhelming degree—not like 'I might have missed some details' or 'I might have missed the message', no, I just didn't understand any of this at all.

Is that bad? Perhaps, but there are other aspects you could mention in that regard. And then I come back to that word 'interesting'. Something that much could be said about—without immediately attaching a value judgment to it. In a professional context, that is bad; if you can say a lot about it, it takes too much effort, too much time. But for a film, that is actually a good thing, perhaps.

All that remains is for me to mention the crazy crooked building about two-thirds of the way through the film. If there is anyone who knows what that is, what it is for? Yes, it is like a metaphor for the film itself—it undoubtedly has a purpose, an urgent use, and a necessity, only I don't come close to it.
