Kamouraska plot
Quebec, the 1930s and 1940s. As she goes to bed with Jérôme, her second husband, Élisabeth remembers her childhood and her marriage to her first husband Antoine and life in the remote Kamouraska where he was a landlord. She also thinks about their love languished by his mental illness and cruelty, her infatuation with the American doctor Georges Nelson and the aftermath of Antoine's violent death.
