Yangguang Puzhao plot
A-Ho, the younger son of a family of four, has always been a problematic child and his father, A-Wen, has invested all his hopes in his introverted eldest son, A-Hao. While A-Hao tries to get into medicine, A-Ho ends up in juvenile detention for a crime he committed with his best friend - though not entirely of his own volition. The family tries to reconcile with this fact, but afterwards they have to deal with an even bigger drama.

Remarkable film indeed. Its main focus is an at best solid, but sometimes quite stiff or even clumsy family drama. But all kinds of elements float around it, both narratively and stylistically, and this results in a fascinating whole. What makes A sun especially interesting is that you never really know where exactly the film wants to go. I don't know if that was the intention, but it worked for me.

Strong film, both in the violent/thriller events and in the emotional suffering of mainly the parents;
Asian beautifully depicted. Beautiful, evocative image compositions and subdued music.
