Strong drama. The story is based on truth and similar stories have been filmed many times before. As a result, the film is not very original and also follows the familiar paths. Nevertheless, it is a great drama that does not bore for a second and also manages to touch the viewer at the end. Cretton works out the story well with a strong build-up. The acting is ok, especially Foxx plays a good role. Visually, the film looks good with an appropriate soundtrack. Great drama. 4.0

Coincidentally watched The Trial of the Chicago 6 after this. And actually, both movies have the same kind of problems. True, but with a Hollywood sauce. That Hollywood sauce is so dominant that you can hardly see the characters as people of flesh and blood. It still works very well for most viewers, and it's also expertly crafted. But if you've seen one of these movies, you've seen them all. Visually, it's not all that interesting, not to mention the soundtrack. The acting is also familiar territory. With a silly part for Larson.

This movie hit me right away. Now there are more of these kind of films and I have seen most of them, but it is also mainly about how the film was made. In contrast to one of my last films, Zookeeper's Wife has been made much more truthfully this time. Based on a true story fits very nicely with reality. It's also nice that the lawyer is still alive and doing the same work, which is really special. The same goes for his assistant. The only one who is no longer alive is the convicted man Walter/spoiler]
But I thought the whole thing was very well played and filmed. The film is a bit long, but I didn't find that a problem. It is brought calmly and nothing was rushed. Actors are also very strong. Music is fine, picture is excellent. Fortunately, the extras have been removed. Have watched them all, but then we get too much talk about black and white and that would have thrown this film off balance. This one is nicely focused on Walter McMillian. Surprisingly, that sheriff has been re-elected about 6 times. Very special in America. By the way, I am not against the death penalty. Whoever is a serial killer doesn't have to live with me anymore. What I do find a bad point in America is the still present jury and that you are on a death list. However, this can take years. I find this quite inhumane.
