Those first 20 minutes have passed, you are still waiting for people to enter the game and The Rock and co can start with their wonderful silly humor. It all feels a bit elongated. In retrospect those minutes turned out to have been necessary because this shows the mannerisms of Glover and DeVito so clearly and their avatars in the game manage to take over this brilliantly, not only Johnson and Hart but later also by Awkwafina who so possibly even better imitating DeVito. The actors are visibly having fun and the film looks great, I had a great time. The action itself wasn't even that great and the film builds on the previous film, although some nice adjustments are made that you sometimes get in game sequels. 3.5*.

The world is turning sour. People can no longer see the sun shining in the water.

Very cool film, with cool stunts, a beautiful fantasy world. Immersive. Nothing wrong with that. Enjoyed it immensely with my 11 year old son.

As safe as a sequel can be. The formula for success is repeated in a different setting and with a few small additions to change the dynamics between the characters. It doesn't get really funny when the protagonists suddenly end up in different avatars than in the previous film. Even the addition of Danny DeVito and Danny Glover feels like they wanted to include an older, non-gaming generation in the demographic. It also started to bother me that a game world simply remains a static and unchanging place. Only the characters evolve and the people they meet remain exactly the same. In the end it comes down to little more than playing a game, and they had already done that in the previous film.
