A lot of submarine chatter, captains and other autocratic figures shouting orders, cardboard characters and mediocre special effects make this a B-stuff that's not even worth forgetting. Also note that moment in the finale when a number of people walk down a long corridor to a seemingly very important room and dare to wonder what it is about all this. The screenplay does not answer that question, but it is a sign that director Antonin Baudry apparently realized too late how boring and clichéd this submarine thriller was about to become. Of course it revolves around preventing a world war and there is one anti-hero with a questionable past who plays a key role. A lazy movie in every way.

With a 3.5 points I sat down for this film. Unfortunately, my personal score plunged to 2 as fast as a submarine. Still, it was another 12 in a dozen submarine films. Normally I can appreciate such films well. Especially if you get a behind-the-scenes look at how things work.

The beginning was very promising with the men on land to be picked up. Maybe I watch a movie too critically, but: when a couple of seals with their weapons on their backs make half a tree move when they move, I think it's a pity. The menacing sub-hunter on the surface and the unknown sub in the water were also nowhere to be seen after a weak action of shooting down a helicopter. The next scene was back on land...? Let me leave out the shooting of the lock on the "bazooka" for a moment.... The library girl who only plays a role for the "do in his urine" had little added value. Also the end that the entire crew of the sub has died except for 21 people... (sigh sigh) As mentioned above... 2 amicable groups that face each other with a difficult decision to make...

All in all not the highlight of the evening but maybe I have to change my view on films

Well, I'm not that wild about Le chant du loup. Initially I wanted to ignore the film, but with Paula Beer I wanted to make an exception, but as thought - a submarine film will in principle only have a male crew - her role was very limited.

For me, the film lacked tension and development. I found it quite tedious and boring. I couldn't really take in much of the atmosphere and then you inevitably end up at Das Boot. Maybe not fair to compare every submarine movie with that, but still. Film is a bit salty, lacks some character. The actors hardly fix this, if at all.
