Friendly.

Just like part 1, Roberts knows how to get a good result out of it. I even like this one a bit better than part 1 in terms of images, but in terms of tension it was a bit disappointing to me. Part 1 then had more intense material, although this doesn't diminish the tension either.

Acting is not very brilliant. A lot of screaming indeed, but in part 1 the panic came into its own. Although the ladies above water have more acting power this time (Nélisse in front) it is a bit less underwater. Especially the real fear never really comes up.

The rest of the film isn't terribly scary, but Roberts knows how to bring it all in pretty atmospheric. In any case, the setting is quite original, you don't see many films with a large part completely under water, and literally in the water.

Set is also nice, and is portrayed quite well. And people who are afraid of deep waters will sometimes shudder at some moments (like me). Especially the moment when the trio of ladies descend into the dark waters was atmospheric.

Camera use is fine, and there are some mean and clever scares in between. Although the film in general is nothing more than an exciting film, it is all quite entertaining and not bad at all on a visual level.

Could have been a little more intense in general. Most of the tension actually now comes from some strong scares.

You're an edge with me if you fill the soundtrack of a teen-focused horror movie with music from Status Quo, Aztec Camera, Roxette and The Carpenters. I also dare to give a modest round of applause for Mark Silk's underwater camera work, but let there be no doubt that this is stupid shit. The insane idea that great white sharks have survived locked up in the remains of a Mayan temple since the end of the Mayan era (around AD 900), where there is also remarkably little shark food, is just one of the flaws that the screenplay contains. It's also daring to say the least that director/co-screenwriter Johannes Roberts took up the challenge 45 after Jaws to create a shark movie with a shark that looks just as fake. Unfortunately, Roberts is no Spielberg and perhaps the only good result of this nonsense is to dust off Spielberg's 1975 masterpiece for a refresher course in effective shark horror. If only Roberts had done that himself...

In fact, everything about the movie is bad. But if you don't think about it, the film does offer some entertainment in the sense that it effectively builds and maintains the tension. And that, after all, is what a film like this is all about.
