Ideal Home plot

"These dads suck"

Erasmus and Paul are a bickering gay couple with an extravagant life. Erasmus is a demanding, popular celebrity and Paul is his insecure partner. Their lives are turned upside down when a ten-year-old boy shows up claiming to be Erasmus's grandson. Neither Paul nor Erasmus are ready to give up their extravagant lifestyle to be parents, but perhaps this little child has something to teach them about the value of the family.

It reminded me a lot of "Patrik 1.5" which I liked a lot better. Ideal Home was for me nothing more than a nice movie that was quite enjoyable to watch because of the cheerful actors.

Almost turned off at the beginning. The humor is too thick. Terribly annoying.

As the story progresses, it becomes stronger and the drama and better acting take over.

By the way, Rudd looks better than ever in this movie. What a haircut and beard can do to a man. Truly incredible.

The story is all a bit tame. But it doesn't get boring.

Cooking show host Erasmus [Steve Coogan] has been in a steady relationship with his producer Paul [Paul Rudd] for years when he is confronted with a grandson Bill [Jack Gore] he didn't know existed. Bill's father [Jake McDorman] is serving a prison sentence and Erasmus and Paul do their best to please Bill. Not easy. Bill has never had stability in his life and Erasmus and Paul also have to deal with a Child Protection Inspector [Alison Pill] who is skeptical about growing up in a non-heterosexual family. Written and produced with the best intentions and a great cast and there are a few funny moments, but the story is on the flat side. That may be because Fleming wants to emphasize that growing up with gay parents is very normal, but you would expect a higher entertainment value from a film with such a cast.
