Excellent coming of age movie. Simon has a secret he hasn't shared with anyone yet: he's gay. He's known about it for a while, but now he has to go tell his friends and family. Love, Simon is 'quirky' and sometimes wants to appear a bit too hip (especially in the beginning), but the greatest strength of the film is that it is all presented realistically and sincerely. With recognizable characters and recognizable problems.
Simon's bond with his friends, his parents, his sister and the anonymous Blue are well developed, and Simon is fortunately not a flawless saint. The second part is a bit more emotional and sentimental (the ending is over the top), but the coming out scenes are impressive. It is easily accepted by Simon's environment and that is sometimes refreshing to see. The only downside is Martin, a weird character who is used more as a plot device than anything else. But Simon's life is portrayed strongly, and I think you have to be gay to reject Katherine Langford. I couldn't.

Strange, in fact, how homosexuality is associated with the initiation ritual of a coming-out. As if accepting a young person's sexual preference is something that has to come from the person themselves, while it is the heterosexual norms and values that can make people doubt their own identity even more, even in progressive/left-wing environments. Just like in 'Get Out' (2017), 'Love, Simon' (2018) inverts well-known genre clichés and thus questions prejudices, stereotypes and false assumptions about homosexuality and homosexuals. Simon Spier (Nick Robinson) is so mundane and normal that the heterosexual characters surpass him in idiosyncrasies and flamboyant traits. Like Martin (Logan Miller) with his affected voice and mannerisms, when he is actually an insecure straight boy who tries to hit on a girl through coercion and extortion. Or an 'oversexed' black teacher (Natasha Rothwell) who openly talks about her own sexual needs, but turns out to be the only person who nips open discrimination in the bud and immediately shows the perpetrators their place. In terms of representation, this production is fine, but in the end the preachy message (accept yourself and others will do it too) is so thick that the enamel is jumping off my teeth.

Very pleasant feel good high school movie. Heard a lot about it and always postponed it. The good things were nevertheless confirmed. The approach and structure in particular was excellent, with homosexuality being central. On the basis of a kind of elimination round, you are just like Simon looking for that one unknown true Jacob.
The movie is also quite funny with some strange situations and circumstances. The blackmail and its consequences are almost incalculable when things get out of hand. Given the light-hearted nature, few negative reports about homosexuality. Unfortunately, this doesn't quite match reality.
Also excellent interpretations. Nice and pleasant pace. In addition to homosexuality and coming out, attention is also paid to the typical teenage loves without appearing corny. Beautiful!
