The Domestics plot

"In the end, defend."

The film is set in a post-apocalyptic future. Young Mark and his wife Nina are on their way home. This is not so easy; through the wasteland that was once the Midwestern United States. In addition, it is teeming with gangs that hunt for inattentive travelers.

Good action,

I immediately noticed that the part 'horror' had to be changed to 'action'. There really is no horror anywhere and there is plenty of action. Occasionally a few moments of rest and action at the right moments. I especially liked the ending part. Indeed, it also reminded me of The Purge with all those gangs that were there, especially part 2 of The Purge. One thing I noticed was that during the car ride they got shot at by those Gamblers and suddenly there was blood on the windshield, while the woman wasn't hit until later? I think this was a bad mistake in my opinion. Other than that, just nice action and yes, maybe not really watching in terms of story, but especially the action!

My favorite (best) part of the film is the song 'Tame me, Tiger'.

Exciting, 'naughty' song from good old Bonny and 'get off that roof' Peter...who would have thought that.

The film wasn't really that bad or anything, after all, I made it to the final chord of Peter and Bonny.

The married couple who have to travel from A to B are doing quite well.

But I especially found the 'gangs' they encountered to be irritating, with names like the plow boys: they don't scare you. Set of evil farmers from Smilde..

The acting of these villains was also quite bad.

But it could all have been a lot worse

Smooth movie.

I became interested in this film after it was recommended to me several times and also from the director who would later give us a cool horror film. The Domestics is a typical film for a director who likes to go all out, preferably as grandly and extensively as possible. And what better way to do that than an apocalyptic setting?

It's a film that tries to mix different amounts of genres together. This doesn't really work in a balanced way. It is too noisy for an exciting horror film, it is too unusual for a full-blooded action film and as a drama film it is not subtle enough. But individually, the genres always ensure that the film quickly and effectively grabs attention. There is almost always something happening that requires attention.

The acting is not brilliant and I certainly wouldn't have imagined these actors in these roles. They are actually names that don't quite fit the characters. It's not necessarily bad, but it doesn't really come across either. That said, there was a very cool character, and that honor can go to Mizuno's supporting role. She isn't given much to do, but what she does do hits the mark.

What remains is a pretty fast, entertaining and bloody genre mix. There is a lot going on, so Nelson focuses purely on entertainment. The narrative to glue everything together is thin, in principle the film is not much more than running into crazy after crazy, but it does work. This film is ideal for an afternoon of lounging on the couch with some snacks.
