Sloppy story, boring dialogue and flat characters. Little pretense about that of course, but the action should make up for more than it does. It is not particularly creative, but it is over the top, with the low point being a rather ridiculous duel in which both pistol shooters stand a meter apart and keep missing. You also learn nothing about the background of the villain's 2 henchmen: the blonde and that huge brute. And hardly anything about the protagonists. Still 2 stars for the beautiful animation.

Although it is already 16 years after Final Fantasy and it looks only slightly better, the computer animation is promising for the future. It's quite normal that the road is first paved by films that aren't necessarily very good. There will come a time when these types of animated films become more commonplace and then the sky will be the limit for really good screenwriters and directors...there really won't be any limitations anymore. Hopefully these types of productions will continue to come.

Not bad, better than the RE films with Milla Jovovich. I find the first part in the well-known mansion the most exciting, once in NY it becomes less exciting. The motion capture is nicely done. But the final battle with that boss is drawn out far too long. It feels like you're watching a cutscene in a game that you can't skip.

The choice to continue the world of Resident Evil with an animation style is of course cheap and requires some getting used to, but director Takanori Tsujimoto picks up the pace well and greatly expands the scale of the action moments. The last half hour in particular is spectacular with quite bombastic violence. It's not exactly creative, but fortunately it is entertaining. Unfortunately, this is preceded by a long hour full of uninteresting characters and little memorable content. The story makes absolutely no sense, but is constantly presented in a needlessly serious manner. It doesn't always make sitting through the entire thing easy, but luckily there's enough going on to compensate for that to a certain extent.
