"Telling the truth can be dangerous business."
Two singer/songwriters dream of becoming the next Simon and Garfunkel. However, they have trouble getting a job because they have no talent at all. That is why they seek happiness in Ishtar, Morocco. Once there, they immediately get caught up in all sorts of entanglements with freedom fighters, the CIA, the Emir's men, Shiites, and a blind camel. Along the way, they begin to question everything - their confidence, loyalty, sanity, but never their talent.
