In a world where dinosaurs never went extinct, Arlo, a 70-meter-tall teenage Apatosaurus with a big heart, lives. After a traumatic event causes turmoil in Arlo's peaceful community, Arlo sets out to restore peace. Along the way, he is unexpectedly joined by a human: a boy named Spot.

hmm.
I had my doubts when I saw the poster of the movie. Not the one with the fireflies, but the other one, where the dinosaur and the human child come into full view. And then I already felt like I was probably going to watch a pretty childish movie.
But with a budget of 200 million that went in, I of course want to give it another chance. And it certainly doesn't look bad on a technical level. The backgrounds of the film and the environments look beautiful. But the short underwater images are also not inferior.
But getting 200 million in is quite a job, especially since I can't see how 200 million went into this. It looks fine, but I don't see any incredible things besides the environments. Though I don't see much of what's wrong with it.
What I especially find swearing in this film is that there seem to be different forms of animation in it. The cartoon-like dinosaurs next to the detailed environments. I didn't like the match that much. And I also thought the look of the green dinosaurs was overly childish and a bit silly.
But the voice acting isn't exactly my favorite either. A lot of screaming humor unfortunately, let that be exactly the humor that I am less fond of. But also in terms of content there is little to discover except a rather standard Pixar set-up. The creativity apparently ran out during production.
Oh well, it will be fun for the kids. Unfortunately, I found it too little noticeable compared to other Pixars. I think the creativity is slowly running out, because they came up with enough nice ideas for this. Although in the beginning it seemed to go in an original direction, to completely fall back into standard events after 15 minutes.
No, this wasn't exactly him. As far as I'm concerned, it's one of the lesser Pixars out there. They can certainly do better things than this.

Watched The Good Dinosaur for the first time today, as a big fan of the Disney animation films.
The film cost a lot of money and it shows. Beautiful animation, backgrounds don't seem animated and are very realistic. Furthermore, dinosaurs are generally a very popular theme for animation films.
The movie is fun, funny, and has great potential. Sorry to see this doesn't quite work out. A lot of the movies are from other Disney movies, like the scenes with Arlo's father (Lion King).
Furthermore, the film just lacks fun characters during Arlo's “adventure”. There just isn't enough happening that's really exciting. He almost drowns 3 times, but as a viewer you want to see something different after the second time in the water.
The T-Rexes and flying dinosaurs are funny but Disney can do better. Look at (now I also call toppers) a Timon and Pumba from the Lion King or a Lumière and Pendule from Beauty and the Beast. Pixar has also done this well in the past, with films like Toy Story or Ratatouille as examples. This is what the film needed to be a classic. More excitement and versatility in Arlo's adventure, maybe some songs and most importantly; elaborate and speaking characters outside the main characters.
What I like about the film is the emotion. At the beginning and at the end of the movie just some very fun and emotional scenes that I really liked.
I can understand the much-heard criticism about Arlo that it is animated too simply and doesn't fit the fantastic backgrounds, but I personally don't find it very disturbing.
In short; the film had a lot of potential and misses the mark too many times to be a true Disney classic. Nevertheless, a nice film that you must see if you like Disney and animation films. With emotion and a fun life lesson.
