I think this movie is top notch. Once recorded on VHS and still regularly watched by me.

The division of roles is striking and the tension is now and then reminiscent of a thriller. The typical English dry humor is also noticeable here and there.

I don't give a '5' easily, but this one deserves it.

Good film in which a thief plans to steal a load of gold from a moving train. This heist film (where the title completely covers it all) is set in the middle of the 19th century and is well dressed in that capacity. The entire preparation is fairly detailed and entertaining, but also with enough tension (especially during the finale in which Sean Connery shows a nice piece of stunt work on the train).

The First Great Train Robbery, a title that sounds like a bell with two names in the form of Connery and Sutherland that are not inferior to it, and then the BBC has a reputation for broadcasting nice classics on weekends.

It's not hard to guess that the story revolves around a planned robbery of a train full of gold. This is presented quite dignified from the character of Pierce, as a kind of gentlemen crook as it were, he is assisted by key expert Agar, who has a lower level of energy and temptress Miriam. And lightning that Lesley-Anne Down is not wrong, if only that could be said about the entire film.

Connery and Sutherland play nicely and especially Agar is a colorful character. Some scenes to get the keys are also quite fun, especially with the pickpocket in the office, a scene and role perfect for Connery. But other than that the film drags itself along practically without tempo and I wonder what the hour and a half up to the crack is filled with, it's not worth remembering and actually the film in the middle has phases that are downright be boring and boring.

And so this 'classic' is a bit disappointing to me, although I have to say that the crack with the coffin itself is strong. But it certainly isn't a top score.
