A petty criminal with a passport problem comes into contact with a group of world-class jewel thieves who plan to rob the Topkapi museum in Istanbul. The Turkish secret service suspects that weapons are being smuggled and are trying to get involved. Under pressure, the petty criminal rises to heights he never dreamed of.

Good movie in which a group of jewel thieves make use of a petty criminal. Entertaining characters and an entertaining cast. Especially in the beginning some nice dialogues and the Istanbul of the 60s forms a nice backdrop. The heist itself takes up a large part of the film and is exciting at times.

I've seen before that Mercouri was not cast for her talent at Dassin, but here it is at least compensated nicely because the rest of the cast is pretty good. Very old-fashioned (the film feels older than 1964), often somewhat farcical adventure film that has two things ahead of many others: the atmospheric, old-fashioned nostalgic location images and the fact that this film just lets things happen in silence. Far from a masterpiece, but quite fun touching entertainment in quarantine times.

Very good heist film that alternates clever adventure and comedy. Airy, funny, exciting, relaxing... doesn't feel dated either. A band of thieves, led by a Swiss man and his mistress, set out to steal Sultan Mahmud's emerald dagger from the high-security Topkapi Museum. They also use a wimpy crook for (Ustinov) who will eventually get completely involved in the plan. Between 3.5* and 4* and highly recommended.
