Not a great movie but with some funny scenes (especially the slapstick with the pompiers); the 20 nose jokes and the romantic monologue under Roxanne's window are strong examples of standup comedy ... Steve Martin is not my favorite actor at all. Man With Two Brains still remains one of the worst movies I've ever seen. He's still up for grabs here. In Roxanne humor is mixed with naive romance; it doesn't always work well because of the characterless characters, but at times it is heartwarming. Those familiar with the play Cyrano de Bergerac will recognize an original modern version in this because it is essentially the same story.

Martin in a typical role for him as an eccentric with a smooth chat. The dialogues are often funny in a charming film full of nice characters, in which the moral is fortunately often omitted.

This has to be one of the most bizarre movies I've seen. Actually, it took me a long time to get used to Steve Martin with his (sticky) nose and in the end it didn't work out. What a sight... Fortunately, the film doesn't take itself seriously at all and no gesture seems too big, which makes it very entertaining. Certainly Martin himself really enjoys his role and his long monologue in the cafe is nothing short of brilliant. You can see the outcome of the love triangle between him, Rick Rossovich and Daryl Hannah coming right from the start, but it's written funny nonetheless. As far as the course of the story goes, this is nothing new under the sun (and a typical 80's comedy), but Martin's striking angle and lively contribution make it well worth it.

3*
