Love plot

The morning of January 1, a telephone rings. Murphy, a young man of 25, wakes up surrounded by his young wife and 3-year-old child. He listens to his answering machine. In the message, Electra's mother asks him anxiously if he hasn't heard from her long-lost daughter. She fears that she has had a serious accident. Over the course of a long, gray day, Murphy finds himself alone in his apartment, musing on his greatest two-year love story with Electra: a passionate crush that involved all sorts of promises, games and excesses, but was suddenly interrupted when the girl, after having attempted a relationship with three, became pregnant with him.

Not uninteresting, but no longer remarkable either. Biggest disappointment Is that it is rather flat. And I'm not talking about the sex scenes, but about the dramatic aspect. Although I believed the crush, Noe goes into far too long about the crybaby, which everyone experiences at some point in their life. I didn't think it added much to the topic of Love in the end. And the very ostentatious self-conscious thing is a bit exhausting. Visually nice, some good scenes (some sex scenes) and found Muyock very convincing (the only one actually). So very close to 3 stars.

The last full-length film I had yet to see by Gaspar Noe. A director I would like to hate sometimes, but his films are too strong. With this he comes closest, because it is definitely his least film. No more often balances between annoyance and admiration with me, but most of the time it eventually turns towards admiration.

This movie has quite a few cringe moments that go beyond the plot struggle that sometimes comes with Noe. The tiresome and almost laughable references to themselves, including an apartment hung with the posters of Noe's favorite films. The stupid transgender scene, the rather clumsy way in which the contrast between the American protagonist and the French is portrayed and the lack of dramatic development there is simply less to compensate for that than in previous movies. Love is also on the long side and could have used the tighter structure of a film like Irreversible. Actors are variable. Glusman is quite convincing, Muyock can get on with it and Kristin doesn't make much of it.

There is still a lot that is going well. The use of color and lighting are enchanting, perhaps even more beautiful than ever. Some dramatic scenes are very beautiful. Although some erotic scenes look a bit static for Noe, communicating with them often works quite well and that seems to me to be quite difficult. The confrontation with his child at the end was the perfect conclusion, unfortunately the film continues for a while after that.

More annoyance and less to compensate and then I get 3 stars. Lower than ever.

Most annoying film by director Gaspar Noe so far, with a lot of explicit sex, but without a fascinating story and/or interesting characters. The three main characters are photogenic, especially the ladies, but they clearly don't like their acting talent. The lousy dialogues don't help either. Furthermore, many references to Noe's earlier work and almost laughable autobiographical details. Towards the end of the film, when the soundtrack features the song Night by John Carpenter and his theme from Assault On Precinct 13, things seem to liven up for a while, but that feeling is quickly crushed by the boring last one. few scenes.
