"Who will survive?"
A high school student and her friends are mysteriously transported to a 1980 horror film featuring her late mother, a celebrated scream queen. Reunited with her mother, she and her friends must fight advances from camp counselors, battle a maniacal killer, and find a way to escape and return home safely.

Well, it does look nice, but I can't say much more positive about The Final Girls. It's kind of a parody of the typical 80s slasher, in which all tropes are equally good; a kind of Scream, but much less fun. The main flaw of this film is that it is simply very unfunny. Everything that happens is, time and time again, a (often lame) reference to typical slasher movies and the 80s, with a bit of cheesy mother-daughter drama thrown in. But in terms of humor I really don't like this, and it goes without saying that you don't have to set this up for the horror or plot. Fortunately it didn't take too long.

Three years after her mother Nancy [Malin Akerman] was killed in a car accident, Max [Taissa Farmiga, Vera's much younger sister] is persuaded to attend a special screening of the slasher film [i ]Camp Blood[/i], in which her mother played a leading role. During the screening, a fire starts (don't ask how) and Max and a group of friends flee through the cinema screen (don't ask why) and end up in the movie (don't ask how). In Camp Blood, the character who plays Max's mother is murdered and Max is determined to save her, but the golden rule of slasher genre states that only the last remaining girl survives the film. Badly executed, failed Scream clone doesn't even follow its own rules! There are some nice ideas (like the main characters hearing the musical cues) and Adam Devine is hilarious as the hopelessly dated, oversexed Kurt, one of the other characters in Camp Blood, but otherwise there is nothing to recommend this.
