Desperate Measures plot

"Desperate times call for. . ."

Police officer Frank Connor (Andy Garcia) is desperate because his son suffers from a rare blood disease that can only be cured with a bone marrow transplant. Because no suitable donor can be found, Frank dives into the computer files of the FBI and finds the name Peter McCabe (Michael Keaton). McCabe's DNA structure fits perfectly and he could serve as a donor. However, McCabe turns out to be a cold-hearted killer who has been sentenced to life in prison for murder and is serving his time in a maximum-security prison. Connor asks McCabe to volunteer, which he refuses at first. Later, McCabe agrees to comply with the request in exchange for more privileges in prison. But McCabe has very different plans and plans to escape to the hospital where the transplant is to take place.

I didn't think it was a bad movie. It is still fairly exciting, although it is of course not really such an original story and a bit far fetched. It was cool to see Michael Keaton act as a villain and he did it convincingly.

Don't expect a masterpiece, but rather a standard video, but there's nothing wrong with that either

I can't imagine a more laughable excuse to serve Michael Keaton as the villain. He does a good job of that, but to say that any other character in this devoid of logic can captivate...

One and a half stars for Keaton and the ending.

I don't know about this movie. On the one hand, it is an old-fashioned good thriller, but on the other hand, I found it lacking in depth. And I expected that a bit more given the story. Especially the scenes between father and son could have been more because I know that Garcia can do that like no other. Now it's gotten a bit too fake sentimental for me.

In addition, I didn't really think Keaton came across as very convincing as a bad guy. In itself it was touching to see how he got a certain sympathy for the boy and the dialogue between them was nicely done during the hostage scene when he takes the boy with him in his flight. But because of this you got too much of a contrast between the tough criminal and someone who still has a bit of feeling in his thunder. I didn't like the transition from one to the other.

The story is good and the tension is well maintained. The build-up of tension is also constant and well put together, but unfortunately I did not find the acting and the characters very well developed.
