"You Choose Your Family"
The story is set in the mid-70s. Erik and Annam are an academic couple. Together with their daughter Freja, they set up a commune in their home in suburban Hellerup. Initially everything goes well: large meetings, dinners and parties take place in the house. There is friendship, love, family and community under one roof. But when Erik's mistress also moves into the house, everything changes. Reality sets in and threatens to destroy family, friendship and the dream of being together.

Not a film that I thought beforehand: I really should see it, but afterwards I'm glad I saw it. Quite an interesting story with good acting. I especially like the daughter and the demure, and the little boy is cute. I could foresee how it would turn out for him. It's a movie full of feelings, but those feelings didn't always come across to me. It's not a movie that really touched me. The seventies atmosphere comes across well and the music fits perfectly. I give the whole 3.5*.

Catchy film about a predictable crisis in a 1970s commune. In many ways it is the film by Trine Dyrholm, who plays a great role. Director Thomas Vinterberg, however, does not reach the level of his Festen and Jagten with this rather "homely" film.
For better films about communes I would like to point out Tillsammans (2000), Nés en 68 (2008) and My Queen Karo (2009), all three of which seem a lot more authentic.

As mentioned by others, Kollektivet is by far the lesser of Festen and certainly Jagten. The concept of Kollektivet really appealed to me. I was unable to see the film in the cinema at the time. So I was looking forward to it. Unfortunately, expectations were not fully met.
The concept of living in a commune is quite nice. But to do this you need highly developed characters and Vinterberg didn't do that enough. There is too little chemistry and cohesion between the characters. Most of them come as an appendix. Everything goes as usual. People do live together, but I lack inspiration. The situation with the withdrawal of Erik's mistress is strange and Anna's attitude to this is also peculiar. Few emotions and feelings under the guise of the hippier world of free sex and relationships. Only the situation of Vilads brings out a real sense of community. It seemed all in all harmonious coexistence with the usual house meetings. Wondering if it would turn out that way in reality, for the rest it remained quite superficial. Unfortunately.
Nevertheless, a narrow enough because of the top performance of Dyrholm and Thomsen. Nice to see once, but that's about it.
