Estelle Rolfe is a passionate fan of Greta Garbo. When she hears that she will only have a short time to live, she tells her son Gilbert her one big wish. She would love to meet her idol in real life one day. Gilbert, eager to see his mother happy, goes to great lengths to find the publicity-shy star.

A decent film in which a son tries to fulfill his dying mother's last wish. A fairly original story that, despite some good moments (both funny and moving), can be a bit tedious at times. The film focuses primarily on the son, while the mother, who takes all the injustices in the world to task, is far more engaging (partly due to Anne Bancroft's excellent performance). Still, 3.0 stars thanks to a powerful monologue scene at the end.

Sweet little film, undoubtedly to be appreciated by the viewer who passionately loves an idol.
A drama-comedy that defuses the seriousness of dying with gentle, relaxing scenes. Perhaps it could have done better, but overall, it's a commendable film, with Anne Bancroft earning a Golden Globe nomination and a mysterious yet successful performance by diva Greta Garbo.
