Madame de Thèbes plot

When a gypsy gives birth to an unwanted child, she is cursed by her father: her son, Robert, will live a happy life only if she does not recognize him as a son. Because of this curse, the gypsy decides to give up her son so that he can live a happy life. 35 years later, Robert is about to embark on a political career as a minister. However, he knows nothing about his true parentage. Meanwhile, the gypsy, in turn, has become an important political figure because of her gift of prophecy. A rival of Robert finds out about this secret and threatens to use it against him...
