I don't understand all those (extremely) high and (extremely) low scores.

He wasn't that bad, but he wasn't extremely good either.

Even people who think this is the scariest horror, then you really haven't seen much. Never once was I really shocked or even thought to close my eyes because it was so gross or scary.

The setting and story itself were good, but it never really got exciting or mysterious.

For example, they could have done a lot more with those Latin texts or given more context to the different spirits or involved the devil more.

The fact that it was a glass house did not fully contribute to horror, of course. You literally look through everything, it never gets claustrophobic, for example. Furthermore, the idea of the glasses is nice, but as soon as they have the glasses on you already know that it can get "scary". The scary and frightening moments are often predictable.

The CGI was also very good, especially for 2001. The ghosts looked good and scary enough and the transitions between ghosts and normal world worked well.

All in all a satisfactory one, due to the reasonable story, the setting and good CGI. There was only missing some depth/mystery, unpredictability/shocking moments and a somewhat scary oppressive horror atmosphere.

Funny.

13 Ghosts has been on the list for quite some time, but it never got around to it. I recently managed to get a hold of it and I had a lot of fun with it. It is clear, however, that a film like this is already quite outdated and that is often noticeable here.

Especially because of the old-fashioned way of directing. Beck throws a lot of crass fanfare and slow-motion effects against the film, and despite the fact that this does have its own charm, it's not really the most fun to watch anymore. It is mainly other elements that help this film move forward little by little.

The role of Lillard is an example of this, because he is always full of shine. I regularly had a good laugh about him, because his crazy face never stops. His character also makes the film a lot lighter, because the other characters remain a bit monotonous and flat. Actually downright boring if you let a Lillard whirl between your characters.

13 Ghosts drowns in horror, but not always well executed. It's always entertaining, because there's a lot going on. Lots of jumpscares, loud noises and demonic faces to behold here. The unfortunate thing is that the bombastic tone completely overwhelms the tension so that in the end it doesn't go much further than simple entertainment.

It also doesn't last long and it gets so clumsy that you can't help but smile every now and then at the large dose of nonsense that passes you by. It's just a shame that the film only manages to lean on that, and the rest is a bit neglected. Extra points for Lillard and the many events that rumble by, but no more high-quality horror film. Nice to see I would say.

1960 movie was a lot better than this silent movie remake, wasn't it? they have given it a twist nothing more to do with a house here and there there are still some pieces in it that you can compare with the 1960 movie but after that it becomes a mess yes of course they had to put more horror elements in it so no 1960 more horror is now really horror movie. but apart from almost the same story, it doesn't have much to do with the old film, nor is it a house like the old film, but a machine. sometimes remake movies can be enjoyed but this one no, put it at the worst remake horror movies
