"Before the Conjuring, there was Annabelle."

John Form has found the perfect gift for his pregnant wife Mia; a beautiful vintage doll in a white wedding dress. However, she will not be able to enjoy the doll for a long time, which bears the name Annabelle. One night, John and Mia's neighbors are ambushed by members of a satanic cult, where spilled blood and terror aren't all they leave behind. The cult members have in fact summoned a demonic entity that is now hiding in the doll Annabelle.

What was what was told about Annabelle in The Conjuring creepy and what little remains of it in this prequel.

The first ten minutes are pretty good and some heavy things happen in the beginning. After that, the film collapses and tells a very uninteresting "haunting" story. The story just isn't enough to keep your attention for over an hour and a half. Not much happens already, and if something happens it makes little impact and it is not creepy. Wan's influence is clearly there, but that can't save the film. Acting is also not of a very high level. Wallis in particular does not come across as convincing.

It bears the name of The Conjuring to seem better than this finished product has become. They failed at that, because Annabelle is pretty bad and there is little entertainment.

I really didn't think it was bad, despite many negative reactions.

A spoof on the excellent Conjuring, in which the scary pop is central. Oh well... as we know series do that often. Defecate about eight parts, with a few side roads that fully focuses on certain elements from the film. Doesn't always have to be wrong for entertaining. But as far as I'm concerned, Annabelle certainly succeeded. I expected worse.

The fatal misses in horror movies are usually the bombastic rambling on classical instruments (if you're talking about the soundtrack) or the overacting screams. Fortunately, in Conjuring they have left that out and the atmosphere is very strong. The soundtrack is okay, the atmosphere is dark and creepy and the acting isn't bad either. By the way, they should have mentioned that this movie was set in the 70s... or was that obvious? We follow a couple where the woman receives an old doll as a present. Of course we immediately know that this is no ordinary doll. Gradually mysterious things happen and... well, you know how that goes. However, I have regularly watched with split eyes. For example, that black-haired woman always managed to grow the icicles on my back. Not to mention many other scenes that Annebelle appears to be full of.... Mainly the elevator scene was a killer. The climax was also very intense.

The further investigations into the sources of evil, with the necessary history lessons, also manage to remain interesting. Many references to The Conjuring too. (I think this took place before the events of The Conjuring)

Come and charm me with this film... And yes, I keep saying it: Those old dolls are already scary of themselves.

Indeed, that doll does absolutely nothing. I sat there all the time with my bottom pinched, waiting for the head to suddenly move or at least roll her eyes, but no… nothing happened at all. I found the first part of the film very weak, with lackluster acting and little suspense. I even started to wonder: is this movie by the same maker as The Conjuring, James Wan? And it doesn't surprise me at all that this film is not made by him, just like that other spin-off The Nun. You also notice that Annabelle radiates a completely different atmosphere than The Conjuring, he is more reminiscent of a movie from the 80s, as someone in this topic also noted. Anyway, the scene in the basement with that demon and the elevator was still exciting to me. I also found the scene in which the mother almost kills her own child quite emotionally charged. And what positives can I say? Bookshops are always fun.
