Nice series, fit nicely next to Tour of Duty (which by the way (fun fact) shared the set with China Beach). Stories were a bit more dramatic, but that also had to do with the fact that it was about a hospital.

A series about a medical post in Da Nang during the Vietnam War. Released simultaneously with Tour of Duty but where that series was a combat series with drama elements, this is a drama series with combat elements. Tour of Duty is my favorite of the two but that doesn't mean this show is any less, certainly not. Tour of Duty looks a bit easier because of the action and that's why it's my favorite. China Beach approaches the Vietnam War from a slightly different angle, but no less interesting for that. We don't follow soldiers but doctors and nurses. They deal with the aftermath of the Tour of Duty episodes. The soldiers who are wounded in combat end up here and are repaired as good and bad as they can. Now a comparison with MASH is quickly made, but any comparison with MASH other than the medical aspect is flawed. MASH was comedy with serious undertones. China Beach is really just a drama series with sometimes a funny scene. Like Tour of Duty, this series also had a delightful 60's soundtrack and a catchy opening tune, Reflections by The Supremes. So China Beach is a great series especially for Vietnam War fanatics like me or as an alternative to ER or Grays Anatomy.
