Sinds Revenge - Seizoen 1 (2011-2012) heb ik een zwak ontwikkeld voor de series van ABC. In het geval van Pretty Little Liars had ik wat vooroordelen die vooral hype gerelateerd waren maar uiteindelijk moest het er dan toch eens van komen en ik heb er verdomme geen spijt van! Pretty Little Liars doet ontzettend veel erg goed. De cast is uitstekend en de karakters mooi uitgewerkt. De alledaagse beslommeringen zijn eigenlijk sterker dan het mysterie dat centraal staat. Verder maken de makers sympathieke keuzes en blijf je als kijker op het puntje van je stoel zitten omdat je wil weten hoe het verder gaat en telkens weer genoeg ruimte krijgt om met de personages te sympathiseren. Kort gezegd is het een heerlijke serie die ontzettend verslavend werkt en uitstekend is uitgevoerd. Alleen dat is al erg knap. Dat het mysterie wellicht ergens een beetje tegen gaat vallen neem ik maar voor lief. De positieve kijkervaring en het plezier maakt veel goed. Aanrader!

Since Revenge - Season 1 (2011-2012) I have developed a soft spot for the ABC series. In the case of Pretty Little Liars I had some preconceptions that were mainly hype related but in the end it had to come about and I don't fucking regret it!

Pretty Little Liars does a lot of very well. The cast is excellent and the characters well developed. The everyday worries are actually stronger than the central mystery. Furthermore, the makers make sympathetic choices and you as a viewer stay on the edge of your seat because you want to know how it goes and always get enough space to sympathize with the characters.

In short, it's a wonderful series that is incredibly addictive and excellently executed. That alone is very nice. I'll take it for granted that the mystery might be a bit disappointing. The positive viewing experience and the fun makes up for a lot.

Deze hippe tienerserie combineert spanning en mysterie met herkenbare perikelen van adolescenten. Het verleden moet ontsluierd worden rond de vermiste Alison (Sasha Pieterse), die alleen in flashbacks te zien is. In het heden zijn er de boodschappen van “A”, die alwetend en alomtegenwoordig lijkt. Samen beleven de vier vriendinnen avonturen en conflicten. Afzonderlijk heeft elk van hen haar eigen problemen met relaties, familie en opgroeien. Hannah (Ashley Benson) is opgeklommen van onpopulair meisje tot kern van het coolste kliekje, door haar gewicht, kapsel en kleding te veranderen. Haar vroegere vriendin Mona (Janel Parrish) heeft ze daarbij achtergelaten. Op persoonlijk vlak heeft Aria (Lucy Hale) de boeiendste verhaallijn, rond de verboden relatie met een leraar. Je kunt gemakkelijk meeleven met de wederwaardigheden in het fictieve Rosewood, Pennsylvania. Erg leuk is de variatie aan locaties en outfits. De eerste twee seizoenen volgen de basisplot van de boekenreeks van Sara Shepard, al zijn er ook grote verschillen. In de latere seizoenen zal de reeks wat ontsporen met vergezochte wendingen. Het kenwijsje van The Pierces treft meteen de juiste sfeer.

This hip teen series combines tension and mystery with recognizable adolescent perils. The past must be revealed around the missing Alison (Sasha Pieterse), who can only be seen in flashbacks. In the present there are the messages of “A”, who seems omniscient and omnipresent.

The four friends experience adventures and conflicts together. Separately, each of them has its own problems with relationships, family and growing up. Hannah (Ashley Benson) has gone from unpopular girl to the core of the coolest clique by changing her weight, haircut and clothes. Her former friend Mona (Janel Parrish) left them behind. On a personal level, Aria (Lucy Hale) has the most compelling storyline, around the forbidden relationship with a teacher.

It's easy to empathize with the vicissitudes of fictional Rosewood, Pennsylvania. The variety of locations and outfits is very nice. The first two seasons follow the basic plot of Sara Shepard's book series, although there are also major differences. In the later seasons, the series will derail with far-fetched twists. The melody of The Pierces immediately hits the right mood.

Hele leuke goede én spannende serie! Ik heb nooit de boeken gelezen maar wel deze serie geheel gezien en elk seizoen boeide mij. Het blijft spannend tot aan het einde met veel plottwists!

Very nice and exciting series! I have never read the books, but I have seen this series in its entirety and each season captivated me. It stays exciting until the end with lots of plot twists!
