The Martian Chronicles plot

In 1999, Earth sends its first manned spacecraft to Mars. The two astronauts are killed by a jealous Martian after the Martian's wife has erotic dreams about the astronauts. Another expedition is sent out. Its members are hypnotized. They believe they have entered their captain's childhood. Eventually they are poisoned by the Martians. When Colonel Wilder lands on Mars with a third group, he discovers that the population has been nearly wiped out by a chickenpox virus that apparently was present on one of the 2 previous expeditions. Gradually, groups of settlers trickle down to Mars. Then a world war will take place on Earth and the population on Earth is also greatly decimated.
