Previous seasons were great, this season (watched until episode can not really captivate. Although things got a bit more interesting after episode 3, the storyline isn't strong enough to keep it enjoyable.

If you haven't seen the previous seasons, I think it's hard to understand the storylines.

Hoping it's a one-time outlier down...

It had been 3.5 years since I last watched American Horror Story, and it was nice to return. Especially since this season is a kind of throwback to the previous seven seasons. Coven was my least favorite season, but I really enjoyed seeing these characters again here. Newcomer Michael is one of the most interesting characters in the series. Yet this season, like almost all seasons, was again a mess of storylines. It never really feels like a story planned out in advance.
