Nel and Eva, who are just eighteen at the end of the Second World War. Nel lives with her mother in the suburbs of a Flemish provincial town. The contrast with the daughter of their new neighbors could not be greater. Nel is flamboyant, full of life and brimming with energy, while Eva is more like a gray mouse: inexperienced, well-behaved and conservative. But when they help each other out at a rescue ball, an unlikely friendship develops. Life has surprising twists in store for both of them, but their friendship remains.
