The Midnight Club plot

A group of terminally ill teenage patients reside at the Brightcliffe Hospice, a mansion with a mysterious history. Together they form the Midnight Club. They meet in secret at midnight to tell horror stories and to look for signs of the supernatural from outside. Together, the group forms a pact that whoever dies first will make the effort to connect with the rest of the Midnight Club members from beyond the grave.

Na het uitstekende The Haunting Of Hill House, The Haunting Of Bly Manor en Midnight Mass valt deze vierde reeks van regisseur/ producent Mike Flanagan wel een beetje tegen. Het is allemaal een een beetje tam en qua toon meer drama dan horror. De jeugdige personages en hun lotgevallen zijn ook niet echt boeiend. Gelukkig wordt de boel enigszins gered door de enge verhalen die de hoofdpersonen elkaar 's nachts in het geheim vertellen en waarin we veel bekende gezichten uit de eerdere drie series zien terugkomen. Aardig, al met al, maar dit smaakt niet naar meer.

After the excellent The Haunting Of Hill House, The Haunting Of Bly Manor and Midnight Mass, this fourth series from director/producer Mike Flanagan is a bit disappointing. It's all a bit tame and in tone more drama than horror. The youthful characters and their misadventures are also not really interesting. Fortunately, things are somewhat saved by the scary stories that the main characters secretly tell each other at night and in which we see many familiar faces from the previous three series. Nice, all in all, but this doesn't taste like more.
