The Long Shadow plot

“The Long Shadow” features one of the world's most infamous and shocking serial killers, Peter Sutcliffe, also known as the Yorkshire Ripper. Between October 1975 and January 1981, police undertook the largest manhunt in British crime history. The search for Sutcliffe lasted five years, involved more than a thousand officers and changed the way the British police worked forever.

True and dramatized crime drama about the long search for the Yorkshire Ripper, one of the most famous British serial killers. Compared to series such as Des, Manhunt, White House Farm and The Pembrokeshire Murders, The Long Shadow stands out due to its lively and ingenious scenario.

The British bureaucracy, the racist misogyny, contradictory services: it has all been seen before. In The Long Shadow, however, the slow horrors take on a special meaning by focusing on the victims, the family and the incompetent British police. In structure, The Long Shadow is comparable to the Danish-Swedish The Investigation.

The 7-part The Long Shadow makes significant leaps in time and covers a period of more than 4,263 days and an epilogue. With beautiful cinematography, wonderful 70s décor and excellent acting, The Long Shadow is a slow burner to frame. And the victims? They will eventually be brought out of that eternally long shadow.

Gloomy but extremely impressive series about the years-long manhunt for the Yorkshire Ripper, who terrorized Great Britain between October 1975 and January 1981. The focus is on the continued wrong approach by the police and the impact of the stream of wrong decisions on everyone involved. The top-notch cast and accurate timeframe make this a fascinating, if quite depressing, viewing experience.
