The Alienist plot
Set in the year 1896, The Alienist follows eccentric psychologist Laszlo Kreizler, who must solve a series of gruesome murders of young male prostitutes. He gets help from John Moore, an illustrator for the newspaper, and Sara Howard, a young woman aspiring to become New York's first female detective. The Alienist is an adaptation of Caleb Carr's book.

After the excellent first episode, it's time to get in, things go a bit slow and static, but then this visually beautifully portrayed, beautifully played ten-part series turns into an exciting, intriguing series. The top-notch cast helps a lot, including a lot of faces we haven't seen in a long time, such as supporting roles from Sean Young and Michael Ironside. Always fun. Towards the end the stretch is a bit off and the whole deserves a more exciting climax, but all in all, quite successful. Based on Caleb Carr's book of the same name, which also has a sequel, The Angel Of Darkness. So...

Atmospheric series that manages to maintain the tension and mystery until the last minute. Entire cast does a good job and the production is simply top notch.
The only thing that came across as strange was that in episode five it turned out that more than four months had passed since the first episode. Little thing.
