Rise plot
Uninspired teacher Lou Mazzuchelli takes on the role of school drama director in an attempt to rediscover his passion for teaching. It soon becomes apparent that there is a lot of work to be done. His controversial decision to stage the controversial musical Spring Awakening and his idiosyncratic casting choices have impacted Tracey Wolfe, the stage show's assistant director, Sam Strickland, the rugby team coach, and the students taking part in the musical.
